How to bid:

To bid on AntiquarianAuctions.com you need to register as a buyer. To do this please complete the registration form. Once we have verified your login details your account will be activated and you will receive a confirmation email.

Once you have logged in with your username and password, you can select the book you wish to bid on by browsing through the categories on the left hand side. Click on a category to view the books listed by lot number. To view full details click on the title of the lot. On this page you can enter your bid in the space provided followed by clicking on the 'Place Bid' button. You will then be asked to confirm your bid. Buyers can keep track of their bids using the My Bids section.

What is a proxy bid?

A proxy bid allows AntiquarianAuctions.com to bid on your behalf. For example: if a lot is reserved at $100 and you place a bid of $150 your winning bid will remain at $100. However if another buyer enters a bid of $125 AntiquarianAuctions.com will outbid it and increase your winning bid to $132 (a 5% increment). This will happen until someone outbids your proxy bid. If no one outbids your proxy you win the lot.

My Watch List

The My Watch List feature allows you to organise lots which interest you in one place. To add a lot to your watch list you must be logged in. Once logged in click on the lot that interests you. On the lot details page click 'Add this lot to your watch list'. You will then be taken to the My Bids page where you can view the items in your watch list as well as the items on which you have bid. To get back to this page later click on the My Bids link at the top of the page.

Extended Time

Bidding activity on lots in the last 5 minutes of the sale put these into extended time for a further 3 minutes. If there is additional bidding in this time the lot will be extended for another 3 minutes and so on until there are no further bids placed. This gives all buyers a fair chance at winning a lot and avoids sniping in the last few seconds.

Additional information

  • Every lot has a reserve price which is set by the seller. The minimum reserve is $20. No bids below the reserve price will be accepted.
  • Winning bids must increase by a minimum of 5%.
  • There is no buyers' premium.
