Description:

Decorative three-colour illustrations and gilt titling on front panel and spine of maroon cloth-boards. Plain grey endpapers. 384 pp + 12 plates + 8 maps and plans + illustrated 32 pp publisher's list. The pages are tinted green at all three edges.

The covers are rubbed at the edges and the spine, the binding netting is showing at the front and one of the plates is loose; but the binding is otherwise firm. The front endpapers carry two owners' names in ink. Several early leaves are foxed.

Henty was a prolific author of historical tales, with no fewer than 40 titles listed by his publisher. The illustrations are by Wal Paget.

An attractive copy.
