The Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 has a character that inspires and fascinates readers and increasing numbers of visitors to South Africa. This two-part biographical dictionary of the main participants is a unique venture and this second volume reveals much about the formidable Zulu nation which nearly humbled the mighty British Empire which had so ruthlessly provoked the conflict.

This fascinating book provides intriguing details on the leaders of the Zulu armies, which totalled some 40,000 warriors. We learn of the terrible price paid eventually not just for defeat by the British (it is estimated that some 10,000 were killed) but in the civil war of 1883, itself the result of internal tensions unleashed by the humiliating defeat of this proud warrior nation. Until recently Zulu history was mainly anecdotal and it took all the local contacts and research skills of the two authors to unearth the facts about the background and lives of these participants.

The significant role of the Colonials, be they British settlers, Afrikaner or non-Zulu Africans, is also examined through entries on the principal personalities.

The first volume covers the British political and military characters and, as this work does, throws fresh and fascinating light on the dramatic events of 1879. No serious follower of the Anglo-Zulu War should be without this thoroughly collectable pair of books which result from the close cooperation of these two acclaimed authorities on the conflict.

The second volume covers the Colonials, be they Afrikaners or other nationalities, and the Zulus who proved such proud and formidable enemies.

The Anglo-Zulu War is increasingly popular with readers and visitors to South Africa and the authors of this highly collectable pair of books are the leading authorities in the field.

Both volumes - Hardcovers with Unclipped Dustcovers.Volume 1-xii+ 196pp and Volume 2- xiii plus 241pp, both as new with illustrations.
