The first two volumes of the eventually five volumes sold on subscription. Covers in khaki cloth boards ("as worn by British Troops on active service"), red embossed lettering and medal design and brown printed design to covers and gilt to spine, pages gilt to all edges, plain endpapers, four photogravure plates, and approximately 20 tinted or b/w plates and x + 250 pp of text per volume, with numerous illustrations in the text, and the text of the Pretoria and London conventions of 1881 nd 1884 in vol 1, which has two frontispieces, and two maps in vol 2.

All the above items are present. The cover corners are bumped, with some slightly frayed. The binding netting of vol 1 is seen through the cracked front hinge of vol 1 and the frontispiece of vol 2 is loose but present. Some sunning and staining of early leaves of vol 2.

Two handsome standard volumes of the period, heavily weighted in favour of the British.
