2 volumes in 1, printed in double columns, I. (xxx), 440 columns. II. 445 - 808 columns, (72 table des matieres), (1 privilegie) pages, half title pages, engraved portrait of the author, title page printed in red and black, 12 engraved folding maps and 6 single page maps by Pierre vander Aa, 4 maps in the text, 19 foldling plates including the large panorama of Iedo (Tokyo) and 3 plans of Goa, Materan & Batavia, 5 single page plates and 15 illustrations in the text, half calf with sprinkled paper sides (which are a little rubbed and worn around the edges) and sprinkled page edges, the two title pages are slightly browned, a few pages lightly browned and spotted but overall the contents are crisp.
In 1633 the Duke of Holstein-Gottorp sent a delegation to Moscow and Persia to open trade negotiations. Johann Albrecht von Mandelslo, a member of the mission, proceeded to India, sailing from Ormuz in 1638 and landing in Surat, where he travelled on to Agra, Goa and Ceylon. From there he sailed back to Europe calling at the Cape of Good Hope in 1639. First published in German in 1658 this French edition contains additional material.
