Extremities rubbed; spine slightly frayed at head and tail; name signed on recto of frontis. portrait; endpapers, frontis. and edges somewhat foxed. Good condition. German text. (Mendelssohn I, p. 856; Spohr & Poller, 1495) The caption to the frontispiece portrait of President Paul Kruger reproduces a note of thanks in the President's hand for outstanding services rendered by the German Ambulance Unit. The German Red Cross made itself available to the Boer forces during the Anglo-Boer War, and this work is a record of its involvement in the early part of the conflict.
