Twice Captured. A record of adventure during the Boer War (1900)

Rosslyn, The Earl of

Description:

The author spent the first six months of the Anglo-Boer War as a "roving correspondent" of the London Daily Mail and Sphere. He was first taken prisoner in Dewetsdorf [sic] but escaped from his Boer guards. He was captured again during the "Reddersburg disaster" and taken to Pretoria, where he tells us that he was confined in all three of the city's prisons.

His is a light commentary, augmented by many photographs, mostly unattributed.

The heavy navy cloth-board covers, gilt lettered to the panel and spine, are bumped at the corners and chipped at the head and foot of the spine, which is lightly sunned. The matching plain endpapers are cracked at the back with netting visible but hinges intact. The binding is firm but flexible. The xvi + 477 pp of introduction and text + 60 inserted pp of plates are all intact except for the folded frontispiece, which is detached but present. There are no inscriptions or markings, but there is occasional light foxing.
