Treatise on the Art of Making Wine from Native Fruits
ACCUM, FREDERICK
Description:
A little book outlining the ' chemical principles upon which the art of wine making depends' and instructions on how to prepare wine from fruit. This is the shorter version of the work, with 92 pages, as well as 23 pages on 'adulterations of food'!!. In original eroded card covers, but the book has been rebacked amateurishly with brown paper. The textblock is somewhat browned, but the coloured vignette on the tp is still bright. Ownership of Daniel Dixon (?)Cape of Good Hope, on tp and eps as well as one other ownership. Dixon was a Cape merchant in the wine trade, who was sent to London in 1824 to lobby the exchequer to reinstate preferential tariffs for the Cape wine trade (T J Keegan, 1996)
