Description:

An extremely rare Notice issued by Haig as Chief Staff Officer to Lt. General French. Dated at Barberton Sept. 13 1900. printed in English and Dutch. "This is to give notice that if any Shooting into the Town or Sniping in its vicinity takes place, the Lieutenant General Commanding will withdraw the Troops, and shell the Town without further notice. Hand written on the reverse:- "Notice given to Pilcher's Column for distribution in Barberton after the occupation of the Town CCh" Haig, later Sir Douglas Haig who commanded the British and Commonwealth Forces in Flanders during the 1st. World War, was noted for his indifference to the loss of life. In good condition, a small tear at a fold , not affecting text, repaired with archival tape.
