His capacity for appraisal and observation makes this an eminently readable book. 594 pp with bw photos and illustrations; five maps, some folding. In contemporary green half-calf with raised bands and gilt decorations and titling to spine; eps replaced; ownership in prelims. Generally in good condition, but edges of main maps are a little crumpled with slight loss,several substantial tears, one of which has been taped amateurishly; some sporadic light foxing
