The War in South Africa. Its Cause and Conduct
Doyle, A. Conan
Description:
(London: Smith, Elder, & Co., 1902) Ownership inscription of 'Sir John M. Clark, Bart., 14 Rothesay Place, Edinburgh' to upper cover. 214 x 138 mm; printed wrappers; pp. 156. Wrappers fragile, somewhat soiled, and frayed at extremities; pages browned. Fair. (Hackett, p. 142; Mendelssohn I, p. 485) 'A summary of the Anglo-Boer question from the British point of view. It is stated that, "for some reason, which may be either arrogance or apathy, the British are very slow to state their case to the world," and while claiming that the British Government did its best to avoid war, it is admitted that right was not absolutely on one side, and that there were incidents in the campaign open to criticism.' - Mendelssohn.
