The Times History of the War (complete in 22 vols; 1914-1921)

Anon

Description:

Full sets of this authoritative series on the first world war are now rare. Some lack the index volume (Vol 22), which is present in this set.

The total set runs to some 12,000 pages. No text pages, photographs or maps are missing. The set has no ownership or other marks and, except for sunned endpapers, is not discoloured.

Each volume is paginated separately, and each has its own index. The introduction to Vol 22 states: "This volume, with concludes The Times History of the War, is a General Index to the preceding 21 volumes. To facilitate reference to the Chapters of the History a Classified Table of Subjects has also been prepared."

The binding is uneven and will need attention from a library or other purchaser, after which the set will adorn any collection.

The binding is full crimson morocco-boards, gilt to the front and spine. The spines of Vols 1 and 11 have been replaced with matching leather-cloth and these two volumes have no more than paper labels on the spines. The spines of the rest of the volumes vary between almost fully present to about 50% present, which means that some of the lettering is missing. Most of the cover faces are in good or better condition, with some rubbing. Most edges and most corners are worn. Although some hinges have loosened, no covers are fully detached, and the binding remains good overall.

The images give a fair overall impression of condition but intending bidders are welcome to consult the seller for more detailed information on each volume.
