Catalogued from original cover title, which continues thus: The First Photographs brought to England after the Relief of the Town, with Descriptions by an Eye-witness (H. St. J. Tugman). 4to; red cloth over boards with gilt lettering to upper cover; original printed card wrappers enclosed; pp. 64; photographs, incl. one of a sketch plan of the country round Ladysmith. (Hackett, p. 163; SABIB 4, p. 564) Accession code in white adjacent to tail of upper joint; spine a little sunned; light wear to cloth; small penned notation to front pastedown; small ink stamps of National Army Museum, with CANCELLED stamp to free endpapers of extra cover; earlier owner's name signed on upper wrapper; a few informed pencilled annotations to margins of photographs; upper wrapper just holding; some light foxing. Good condition. A fascinating series of views in the town and within the perimeter defences, taken during the siege, with some further scenes of the country surrounding Ladysmith and places of strategic importance on the Natal front.
