The Road To Zimbabwe 1890-1980

Verrier, A

Description:

The author explores, in a 'revisionist' fashion, the motives and political manoeuvring concerning the various governments in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe from the late 19th Century to independence in 1980. "Drawing on personal experience, many interviews, and access to key sources, Verrier reveals that Mrs Thatcher's government in 1979 supported the whites, but was virtually coerced at the August Commonwealth Summit in Lusaka into holding a constitutional conference and calling for an independent election. He also shows that both conference and election were rigged; Mugabe triumphed against odds which have not hitherto been revealed." Book and jacket are near fine condition, and jacket is protected by a Brodart plastic sleeve.
