The River War - 2 Volume Set

Churchill, W.S.

Description:

A good set of one of Churchill's earliest works. The 1st edition of 2,000 copies was published in 1899; this, the second impression of 500 copies followed two months later. Both volumes in sound condition, good covers (rear of vol.1 has patch of damp-staining), good binding, with all maps (faded yellow), photographs and illustrations in good condition. The only drawback being the fact that both volumes have fairly extensive foxing and spotting throughout (although there are sections which are perfectly clean as well, volume 1 appearing better than vol.2). Some gatherings are tender and inner rear e-p of vol 2. is split and inner rear e-p of vol.1 cracked. Black end-papers are in very good condition, and not split. This set 'Ex Libris' Sir Abe Bailey, with pencil notations on f.f.e-p's recording this, and with remains of small library stickers on lower spine areas. Reserve price has been adjusted accordingly. A very good starting price for this extremely scarce and well-preserved set.
