The Rhodesian African Rifles.
Owen (Christopher).
Description:
Owen (Christopher). The Rhodesian African Rifles. Leo Cooper Ltd., London, 1970.
8vo., [iv],75pp., with illustration and maps; original brown cloth gilt with pictorial dust wrapper , very good.
Published in the Famour Regiments Series Edited by Lt-General Sir Brian Horrocks.
By British standards ,the Regiment is very young … But if the story is short it is, nevertheless, intensely interesting. This is especially true of the five years covered by this book which records the birth of the Regiment and its service in South-East Asia during World War II. The dedicated determination of a handful of men to raise an askari fighting unit … to see their persistence vindicated by the successes of the Battalion in the Arakan jungle of Burma.
