This authoritative survey of Port Natal, from earliest days up to the present time, is of great interest, especially in view of the strategic importance of the sea route round the Cape of Good Hope. It covers the history, administration and working of the port, its finances, labour organisation and trade with the hinterland. Matters of policy are discussed, and ample statistics provided to illustrate the many aspects of the development of the largest harbour in The Republic of South Africa; 150pp., including 13 appendices and tables of cargo handled, passenger traffic, bibliography and list of official publications: pre-union, from union to 1966, and post-union.

Condition: blue cloth boards with gilt titles on front, very good; light flap fading, contents in excellent condition. Jacket: spine rubbed, edges creased and lightly chipped.
