II. iv, 699 pages, chromolithographic portrait of Livingstone at frontispiece in volume 1, engraved title pages, 27 coloured portraits (including the major African explorers of the day) and views, coloured map, numerous wood-engraved plates and illustrations in the text, half brown calf with black title labels, brown straight-grained cloth sides - the leather is worn at the corners and spines are faded, marbled edges, contents crisp and bright.
