INSCRIBED on the free end-paper by the author with a charming original comic vignette drawing depicting a swimmer frantically trying to out-swim a chasing crocodile, below which is written “To Mr Sawyer with all best wishes and salaam from the Lake Rudolf Olympic tryout (and also many thanks for locating so much of the Africana now in my collection) as ever, Peter Beard, P.O. Box 4192 Nairobi” Dated ‘December 7 ‘67’.
Also loosely inserted is a note from Peter Beard, on the verso of a photograph and dated Jan ’71 regreting he was busy when “Tom” called and continuing “Yes I got out of the clink ok & am wrapping up a few books here (New York) before going back this coming summer. ...”
