The History of the Postcards, Envelopes and Wrappers of the Orange Free State and Orange River Colony (Part III; edition limited to 100 copies; 1923) (from the library of Andre Bezuidenhout)

De Raay, Leon

Description:

Published 16 years after Part I (Lot 1), this is Part III of the same work. We have not come across a copy of Part II.

The title-page verso has "Printed one hundred copies. No." set in type, but no number has been allocated to this copy.

This is another lovely production, although not in the de luxe style of Lot 1. It is beautifully typeset and has such generous margins that the type block appears to take up only about one-third of the total page area.

The light-brown card covers, printed in a darker brown to the front, back and spine, are spotted at the front. The covers have scored hinges at the spine, which has a neat smooth tape reinforement. A small area of material at the foot of the spine has been lost. The binding remains excellent. The front of the flyleaf has a brown stain towards the front edge, but the rest of the book remains unfoxed or otherwise discoloured, and has no ownership or other marks. vii + 192 pp of profusely illustrated text.
