2 volumes: 598 + 598 pages, frontispiece and a folding map in each volume, 21 plates, original orange cloth decorated on the upper covers and titled gilt on the spines - the cloth is worn along the edges and the bindings are a little loose, frontispiece and title page in volume two detached, the plates are lightly browned as usual, otherwise the contents are good.

Second edition. The first edition was published in Adelaide, Australia in 1879. This expanded edition was published in Cape Town following Moodie's return to South Africa.
