First Synagogue

Description:

Lithographic print of the First Jewish Synagogue in Johannesburg, the print is signed NB in the bottom right hand corner, and was printed by Diggers' News Litho, lightly foxed and stained.

This was probably a free insert given away with an issue of the Diggers' News newspaper the first issue of which appeared in 1886.

This first synagogue was build in President Street in 1889 and was demolished in 1926.
