Hackett (R.G.) SOUTH AFRICAN WAR BOOKS, An Illustrated Bibliography, page 121, 'Campaign diary of Lieut. Lygon of the 3rd Batt. Grenadier Guards together with an account of hid death near Karee Siding extracted from the Bloemfontein Friend of March 27th, 1900. The officer records his experiences up to the occupation of Bloemfontein with reference to the battles of Belmont, Modder River and Magersfontein. (The work of the 3rd Grenadier Guards is outlined on page 83 of this volume. On March 23rd Lieut. Lygon together with three senior officers and an orderly, left their encampment north of Bloemfontein to seek forage from neighbouring farms. Returning from the mission the group encountered a party of Boers near Karee Siding. In the ensuing action Lygon was killed and all the others wounded. The Boers helped the wounded to a nearby farm and Lygon’s body was retrieved for burial the following day. This elegantly printed volume is a tribute from members of the officer’s family.'

Lygon was the younger brother of the 7th Earl Beauchamp, governor of New South Wales.
