The Aloes of South Africa (first ed; 1950)

Reynolds, G W

Description:

Although missing the dustjacket, this is an excellent copy of the first edition of Reynolds's comprehensive work on the South African Aloes, published more than sixty years ago and based on his 20 years of collecting, photographing and propagating Aloes.

The extremities of the original green cloth-boards, gilt design to the panel and gilt design and lettering to the spine, are lightly bumped and the spine has a small faded area near the foot. The printed endpapers are insect damaged (see images). There is a bookplate on the verso of the front free leaf, which is sunned. The rest of the book is printed on art paper and is unmarked, clean and undiscoloured - xxiv + 520 of text, glossary and index + 77 inserted single-sided colour plates, with many additional black-and-white figures in the text. It is in near-fine condition.
