Stamps of the Orange Free State (3 vols; 1966-1976) (from the library of Andre Bezuidenhout)

Buckley, G D and W B Marriott

Description:

See also Lot 1.

These three volumes are perhaps the best starting point for O F S collectors. This set carries the inscription "To Andre Bezuidenhout from Archie Batten 27.7.87" on all three fly-leaves. Bezuidenhout kept these volumes unmarked and in near original, and used standard volumes as his working set.

All three volumes in this set are full bound in dark-blue calf, with gilt lettering to the spines. All have matching marbled endpapers. The top page edges of Vols 1 and 2 are tinted in blue. All three page edges of Vol 3 are gilt.

The preliminary pages are typeset, with the rest of the text being derived from camera-ready typewriter copy arranged with the figures, some of which fold out.

Part I. The Republican Era 1854-1900. 282 pp + 4 pp of advertisements.

Part II. The British Occupation 1900. 211 pp + 5 pp of advertisements.

Part III. Orange River Colony 1900-1913. 247 pp.

A magnificent set.
