Original light green cloth with brown titling and gilt vignette of author with two lion cubs on the upper cover, gilt titling on spine – the cloth is very lightly insect scarred and the spine slightly faded, inscription of previous owner in ink on front free endpaper, contents bright, a very good copy.

Czech: An annotated Bibliography of African Big Game hunting Books, 1785 to 1950, page 127, ‘An excellent sporting title, this features all manner of big game hunting in the regions southwest of Hargeisa on Peel’s first expedition, then through the Haud and Ogaden on his second. The author’s hunting party bagged gazelle, rhinoceros, hartebeest, lion, oryx, and lesser kudu, as well as experiencing some hair-raising encounters with leaopards. The rhino Peel bagged was hit eleven times and severely injured a gunbearer before finally succumbing.’
