SHINY AND SHINESS - A tale of a Male and Female Rainbow trout in the Eerste River.

"Kingfisher" (Bowker, Fred)

Description:

This story is fiction, built on accepted facts, proved facts and more than forty years study and close observations of the Eerste River, near Cape town.

92pp. Pictorial Cloth Hardcover with dust-wrapper. Illustrated by Prosper J. Williams. Includes a 1947 Sunday Times newspaper clipping paste-down to front free EP. Also includes the original promotional flyer.

Very good in unclipped DJ. Some nicks to top and bottom of DJ spine. Now protected from further damage by a heavy plastic covering. Previous owners name(yrs.trly.)neatly penned to front EP.

No publishing date has been recorded in the book but the book has been widely accepted or presumed by collectors of African fishing literature (by historical deduction) to have been published in 1949. This copy however has a Sunday Times newspaper clipping paste-down with a pencilled in date (27/4/47) that suggests otherwise.

"Kingfisher has a greater reputation for "bringing home the bacon" than any other trout-fisher in the Western Province and his record shows that he has caught over ten thousand trout during the last forty years.

Born on the banks of a small river in England, every spare moment in his youh was spent striving to learn the secrets of the stream's inhabitants and of Nature's animals and birds on its banks. This craving to learn the secrets of the river has continued throughout his life and since the year 1906 "The River" has been the Eerste.

No angler could be better equipped than Kingfisher to write a life story of the Eerste River's silvery rainbows." - extract from original promotional flyer.
