SELECTION OF 16 PLATES FROM VOLUME FOUR

Marloth (R.)

Description:

16 loose plates from Marloth's FLORA OF SOUTH AFRICA, volume 4. Plates 21 - 24 Liliaceae.

Plates 34 & 36 Amaryllidacea. Plates 40 - 43 and 46 - 50 Iridaceae. Plate 59 Orchidaceae - Diseae.

Each plates stamped in blind at the top righ hand corner R. Muller, Kaapstad (Muller's were music and booksellers). These plates differ slightly from those in the published volumes of the Flora in that they have the title THE FLORA OF SOUTH AFRICA at the top and a 'Family' number. It is unknown whether they were run-ons from the original publication or specially printed for sale as separate plates. It is possible they were printed after World War I when the final two volumes of the THE FLORA were issued.
