Fitzgerald, 31 plates – mostly photogravures and including 4 fine long fold-out panoramas, 5 folding maps – 3 coloured at the end of the volume, many other illustrations in the text, original maroon buckram gilt over bevelled boards, spine lightly faded, front hinge split and simply repaired with tape, binding loose, top edge gilt, the contents which are printed on coated paper are bright.

The Ruwenzori were thought to be the mythical Mountains of the Moon mentioned by Ptolemy. The Duke of Abruzzi’s expedition was the first to explore the range and to climb all the peaks.
