4 volumes, I. (xxvi), 390. II. (xxxii), 384. III. (xiv), 286, 289-389, 400-414, pages, 1 folding engraved plate, 9 engraved plates, 1 small etched vignette of Table Mountain laid down at the head of page 1 in volume one, with all four half title pages, recently bound in brown marbled paper, printed on poor quality paper there is some foxing and light browning throughout, the edges are uncut and each volume differs in size from  190 x 125 mm (volume IV) the smallest, to 220 x 140 (volume III) the largest.

'Thunberg's account of his visit to the Cape of Good is of outstanding importance among the printed works on this subject published in his era. It comprises about one third of his book whose title in English is 'Travels in Europe, African & Asia.' Foreword to the Van Riebeeck Society edition by Forbes and Rudner.

A South African Bibliography, volume 4, pages 504-505. Two complete copies listed.

Published in Swedish this is the first edition of Thunberg's work.
