This publication was Handbook Series No 3 for the SA Archaeological Society and is sub-titled "An Introduction to South African Ceremics Prehistory and Protohistoric." The study is presented in five parts which include Haunters and Herdsmen, The Iron Age and Recent Primative Pottery of South Africa. The two opening parts deal with Man and Pottery and Classification and Definitions. The b/w sketch illustrations, by the author and G W Hockey, consist 14 plates each with multiple images and seven figures. First edition of 1948, 220 pages including summary and index, illustrations throughout, e/paper maps.
