Paul Kruger en de Opkomst van de Zuid-Afrikanische Republiek (1898)

Van Oordt, J F

Description:

In Nederlands, and published after the Jameson Raid and before the the Anglo-Boer War, Van Oordt's work may, though unindexed, be the most comprehensive single-volume history of the South African (Transvaal) Republic and its charismatic President, Paul Kruger.

This is a sound and complete copy of a finely produced book.

The heavy ivory cloth-boards, printed in nine colours, remain sound though bumped, frayed at the lower corners and slightly torn at the top of the spine. Both printed endpapers are torn and stained, with ownership signatures at the front. Although slightly cracked at the frontispiece, the binding remains tight and well rounded. The book's xii + 904 pp of text and appendixes in large clear type with generous margins are complete, unmarked and undiscoloured (no foxing). An errata slip is inserted at the back. The only illustration is the frontispiece (see image), which is in near-original condition.

In translation, the appendixes are I The Sand River Convention of 1852, II The London Convention, III The Swearing-in of President Kruger, IV The Famous Answer and V Highlights of the South African Republic Ruring the Last Months.
