Lucas Sithole 1958 -1979. A pictorial review of South Africa's major Black sculptor
F Haenggi
Description:
Oblong 16.5 by 17cm. 236 pages. Pictorial wrappers, paperback. 14 page chronological index of major works. Biographical notes including one man exhibitions, group exhibitions, public commissions and public collections. A pictorial review of Africa's major Black sculptor published to accompany 'Lucas Sithole Retrospective Exhibition 1958-1979'. Comprehensively illustrated with color and b/w reproductions of photographs. Pages 17 to 219 comprise plates on individual works in colour and black and white. Considering his stature in South African art, there is surprisingly little reference material on Sithole. This very comprehensive catalogue is the only monograph that I can find on Sithole's work. A must have for the collector or admirer of this artist. Book has some minor shelf wear but overall is in excellent condition.
