there are two sides to Lovedale's work. There is its internal growth from a small missionary seminary to a large Christian educational centre. And there is Lovedale as an interpreter and mouthpiece of the non-Europeahn peoples of South Africa in face of the country's changing Native policy. both aspects are dealt with in this book in one continuous narrative.
