KAROO

Green (Lawrence)

Description:

Book Description: 248pp. Hardcover with DJ. Illustrated maps on end-papers. Colour frontis of herders with sheep. Full page B/W photos and illustrations.

Book Condition: Pages heavily toned with damp stains to bottom of some of the pages, although these pages are not warped. Internal binding is very good. Previous owner's name is penned to the front paste-down. There is also a ruled through rubber stamp on the front free EP. The dust jacket is missing a large section of paper on the lower end of the spine and is also suffering some paper loss at the top of the spinal area. There are a few numbers jotted down in fountain pen ink to the outside front of the DJ. The DJ has been covered in cellophane to prevent further wear and tear.

The story of the Karoos of South Africa - the Great Karoo, the Little Karoo and the far corners of the North West Cape and Namaqualand'. A highly readable account of these areas with their charming old villages and dramatic arid landscapes.

'Karoo' is arguably Lawrence Green's most popular book ever! All first editions are fast becoming collectors items. I recently counted no less than 23 first edition 'Karoo's' (some very good with DJ, and others in pretty poor condition without DJ), in ex Prof. Chris Barnard's (R.I.P.) private book collection!
