KAROO
Green (Lawrence)
Description:
Book Description: 248pp. Hardcover. Illustrated maps on end-papers. Colour frontis of herders with sheep. Full page B/W photos and illustrations interspersed here and there amongst text pages.
Book Condition: Some cracking to outer edges of spine. Top cover corner bumped. Internal binding is very good. Pages are quite heavily browned throughout, particularly towards the margins. Two previous owner's names ('Art Leary' is one of them) are penned to the outer front free end-paper. There is also a ruled through inscription on the title page.
The story of the Karoos of South Africa - the Great Karoo, the Little Karoo and the far corners of the North West Cape and Namaqualand'. A highly readable account of these areas with their charming old villages and dramatic arid landscapes.
'Karoo' is arguably one of Lawrence Green's most popular, if not, the most popular book ever! All first editions are fast becoming collectors items. I recently counted no less than 23 first edition 'Karoo's' (some very good with d.w's, and others in pretty poor condition without d.w's), in ex Prof. Chris Barnard's (R.I.P.) private book collection. Now what did he know that we don't? I think plenty!!
