How I Found Livingstone in Central Africa . . . (37th thousand)

Stanley, Sir Henry M

Description:

" . . . Travels, adventures and discoveries in Central Africa, including four months' residence with Dr Livingstone, with illustrations, map, and a memoir of Dr Livingstone."

After "thirty-seven thousand" copies, the letterpress shows some small wear. The book is complete - lxxiv + 552 pp of text, glossary and index + frontispiece and 17 other illustrations (4 inserted) + folding map at the back. The map has an unclosed tear almost across one fold. The red cloth-boards, with gilt design and blind embossing on the front cover and gilt lettering on the spine, are rubbed. The binding is sound. There are inscriptions (including a date in 1911) and a Sunday school stamp on the front endpapers, which are lightly sunned. The back endpapers are lightly foxed. The rest of the book is unmarked and undiscoloured except for a 2 x 1 cm brown stain between pp viii and ix.

A good but inexpensive copy of a collectable book.
