Boards a little bumped; extremities slightly rubbed; spine sunned, and somewhat frayed at head and tail; large portion of front free endpaper removed; pages browned, as usual; binding a little slack. (Hackett, pp. 66, 168; Mendelssohn I, p. 1002) "A record of operations in the western sector. Chapters relate to events at Modder River, Magersfontein, to Gen. French's cavalry operations in northern Cape Colony and the relief of Kimberley.
