Figures of Cape Plants by William Curtis

William Curtis

Description:

A collection of about 119 hand-coloured engravings of Cape plants, selected from the early years of Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Bound into old green half-leather. According to the typed title-page this has been arranged according to Harvey's "Genera of South African Plants." The engravings depict popular Cape plants, many from bulb genera, each plate in the original hand-colouring. No text pages are present. KERKHAM #777. These stunning colour plates are a fine example of plants collected at the Cape, some illustrated here for the first time. A nice addition to an African botanical collection. Covers a bit rubbed, some browning & foxing.
