DIE BUREN, LAND UND LEUTE IN TRANSVAAL
Wester (Constantin)
Description:
Mit zahlreichen Bildern, Porträts und einer Karte. Dritte Auflage.
108 pages, illustrations in the text, map at the end, pictorial paper wrappers - spine frayed and edges worn, contents slightly browned.
Mendelssohn 2:602. 'The Boers. The People and the Country of the Transvaal. The volume gives an account of the early days of the Transvaal, and the character of the Boers. with sketches of Kruger, Joubert, and Steyn, and notes on the Zulus and the Basutos, a description of the Orange Free State, and the Diamond Fields, &, &. The writer expresses his sympathies with the Boers and asserts that hundreds of Germans were assisting them in the war, and that the German people soon found out who had right on their side.' A contemporary pro-Boer booklet, it was obviously widely circulated judging by the number of editions and impressions. However 'A South African Bibliography', volume 4, page 762, lists only six copies of the first and second editions and none of the third edition.
