Cetywayo and His White Neighbours;

Haggard (H.Rider)

Description:

Haggard (H.Rider) Cetywayo and His White Neighbours; or Remarks on Recent Events in Zululand, Natal, and The Transvaal. Third Edition with a New Introduction. Trubner & Co., Ludgate Hill, 1890.
8vo., lxviii,314pp., original blue cloth gilt (very slightly marked, top of spine frayed, bottom a touch frayed, joints beginning to weaken but overall a good copy, blind library stamp on title page and another, ink one, on verso). Amazingly this third edition is not listed in SABib (Vols 1-5). The first, second (1888) and fourth (1891) are recorded but not this edition, the last to bear the imprint of Trubner rather than Keegan Paul etc. It contains the new Introduction (62pp) that first appeared in the second edition.

    By way of introduction, I entered the book trade, on leaving university in 1970,when joining the family firm, Chas J. Sawyer (Est. 1894), at that time in Grafton Street, London W1. Forty years have resulted in a good general knowledge in all areas of the antiquarian book trade.

    Particular areas of interest and expertise are Africana (19th. Century), Bibliography and Reference, Churchilliana, Ephemera, Fine Bindings, and Kentish material. A small stock is maintained as well as insurance valuations and consultancy work undertaken. Agent and UK representative for AntiquarianAuctions.co.za
