Cape of Good Hope Civil Service List (1906)

Kilpin, Ernest (ed)

Description:

The 1906 edition is particularly useful as it marks the midpoint between the end of the Anglo-Boer War and Union. It contains a mine of detailed contemporary information and comprises some 18 pp of advertisements, xlviii pages of contents and index at the front, 437 pp of text and three bound-in maps.

The heavy mottled red cloth-board covers, gilt to front and spine, are intact and retain their stiffness but are rubbed, bumped, torn at the spine and moisture stained at the lower corners. The lower front hinge is broken and the binding is loose but still attached to the block. The binding is cracked at the rear endpaper but the hinges are intact. The front endpaper and folding map are loose but present. The book-block is otherwise undamaged, unmarked and unfoxed, and the colour maps are in original condition.
