The author spent some nine years travelling the area between the estuary of the Congo and the Great Lakes. He writes sympathetically and interestingly of the native tribes, their cultures and art. The book also contains a number of items of folk-lore of the region. 316 pp with numerous bw photographic plates and folding map at rear.Somewhat worn original covers showing some borer attack (none live) of which one or two holes have penetrated some way into the textblock. Moderate foxing mainly in prelims, eps replaced, otherwise good condition.
