4to (260 x 220 mm), 205 folding maps, plans and plates - views, temples, antiquities and plants, etc., contemporary quarter calf with sprinkled paper sides – very worn and rubbed, small rubber name stamp on each title page, stain at the base of the title page in volume II, part II, the edges of some protruding maps and plates are soiled and frayed, contents crisp, overall a good copy.
First and only issue of the Dutch edition of Pococke’s travels first published in English in London (1743 – 1745). This edition has additional maps and plates. Pococke travelled extensively in Palestine, Syria, Mesopotamia, Cyprus, Crete and Greece.
