Andries Pretorius. Lewensbeskrywing van die Voortrekker Kommandant-Generaal (second revised and enlarged edition; 1940)

Preller, Gustav S

Description:

This is one of the author's later books. The first editor of Die Vaderland, Preller wrote profusely in Afrikaans, although occasionally in English as well, on the Voortrekkers and on other periods of Afrikaner history (including Piet Retief, Louis Trichardt, six volumes on Voortrekker people).

Andries Pretorius was the commandant-general of the 470-man commando at the Battle of Blood River and the man who authored the vow that if the trekkers were victorious the 16th of December would forever be honoured.

The green cloth-boards, black design to the upper panel and black lettering to the spine, are rubbed and the spine is faded. The binding is shaken and cracked at the title page. The plain green endpapers are sunned. There are no ownership or other marks. The vii + 493 pp of text and appendixes + xxxi pp of indexes + frontispiece and several other inserted monochrome plates are all present and in better than good condition.
