Records of a sportsman from August 1894 to November 1897, when crossing the Dark Continent from the mouth of the Zambesi to the French Congo. Translated from the French with an introduction by Frederic Lees.

330 pages, frontispiece portrait, 29 plates, 36 text illustrations, pictorial blue cloth gilt, decorated with the head of an elephant in gilt on upper cover, top edge gilt, a very good copy.

A variant issue without the single page map which is mentioned on the title page and is called for to appear after page 278 in the list of illustrations of most copies. In this issue the map is not mentioned on the title page nor in the list of illustrations. Both the title page and page xvi are ‘cancels’, i.e. these pages have been reprinted and substituted by being tipped-in in place of the original pages.
