Presentation Copy, inscribed in ink on the free endpaper 'To General Sir Reginald Wingate with the high regard of Theodore Roosevelt, April 21st 1911'. Wingate is mentioned in the text on page 444. 'At Gondokoro we met the boat which the Sirdar, Major General Sir Reginald Wingate, had sent to take us down the Nile to Khartoum'.
