Volume Two: i-x pp 1-370. 10 engravings. Neatly rebound in half leather on marbled boards, gilt lettering on spine, gilt on top edge faded. Pages delicate and brittle with some worn page edges. Three of the plates in Volume Two appear on different pages from those given in the table of contents. Considering the age of the book it is in Very Good condition. An account of five years spent hunting and exploring in southern Africa in the mid-nineteenth century. Cumming's description of the game-filled plains of the interior inspired later travellers and explorers like F. C. Selous. The book portrays unspoilt veld and a wildlife paradise that is no more.
