Smuts (Jan C., General). A Group of Five early Nineteenth Century Press (original) Photographs (as under). These black and white images are in good condition, on average measure 6 x 8ins. Four have typed slips pasted on the verso with subject and suggested caption, plus Agency stamps e.g. ‘The Topical Press Agency’ & ’L.N.A’. The fifth is inscribed (indistinctly) in pencil.
The group comprises.
A. “Gen Smuts, Prime Minister of South Africa arrived in England today (Sat) for the Imperial Conference. – ‘General Smuts photographed on arrival at Waterloo’.” (14.6.21).
B. “General Smuts unveiled a memorial to South Africans who died at Richmond Park Hospital in Richmond Churchyard today. ‘General Smuts touching the button that unveiled the memorial’ “. (30/6/21).
C. “General Smuts unveiled a memorial to South Africans who died at Richmond Park Hospital at Richmond Churchyard today. – ‘General Smuts standing on the step of the Memorial’. (30/6/21)
D. “General Smuts arrived in London this Morning from South Africa to attend the Imperial Conference. – ‘General Smuts being greeted on his arrival at Waterloo Station this morning’ “. (25.9.23) (one corner defective).
E. “General Smuts and his wife at the Olcon (?) … Joburg”. (see image).
