Gawthorn Ltd, 1946) Royal 8vo; original green cloth, lettered in gilt on spine; pp. xii + 686; profusely illustrated with plates, maps and charts, incl. folding, line drawings and photographs in text. Cloth a little rubbed; bump to bottom fore-corner of upper board; earlier owner's name signed on pastedowns; upper hinge starting; trace of spotting to fore-edge; binding a little slack. Good. A classic of Southern African botany, which contains descriptions of Hutchinson's travels between 1928-29 and 1930. "In 1919 he was put in charge of the Africa section and in 1936 was promoted to keeper of the Kew botanical museums. He retired in 1948 but continued to assist in the herbarium until his death, publishing even more works during this period than before his retirement." - DSAB V, p. 370.
